MARE is a handmade incense vessel: native Florida shells cast in tin-copper, joined to 4-5" blue calcite. Each piece is unique and includes Japanese incense. Sculptural functional art for the home.

Reef Research is an ongoing ecological design project by ORI: a deployable artificial oyster reef substrate built from concrete chainmail. Designed to restore Florida estuarine habitat, with prototypes deploying in Tampa Bay in 2026.

HollowCam is an open-source survey camera designed by ORI for field biologists. Slim enough to enter sub-inch tree-cavity openings at 50-foot heights, paired with a companion web app for species tagging and live monitoring of endangered species habitat.

Vessels is an experimental design research project by ORI exploring bio-based, biodegradable materials for funerary objects. Adapted from Midushi Kochhar's recipes, each form contains native plant seeds intended to germinate as the vessel decomposes.

Kate Andersen

Kate Andersen, director of ORI, is an interdisciplinary artist and designer with a background in storytelling, communication, and design, as well as a passion for regenerative ecology. She views design as a tool to affect both individual and collective “orbits,” the shape, energy and power that they hold.
